Local Marketing for Business

As part of our Foundation Marketing (you can read about it here), local marketing for business covers several vital areas if you are going to be found by the customers who are looking for you. There are many local directories that your potential customers use to find the services they are looking for. Recent statistics reveal that searches done by local people within a 6 mile radius of your business are 90% ready to buy., and 50% of the time, they are on their mobile device! Watch this video on Local Marketing:

Do I Need Local Search Optimization?

It brings in more ‘ready to buy’ customers to your business than any other paid or free advertising available today and yet millions of local businesses still haven’t claimed their Google My Business, Yahoo, Bing, or their other business listing pages.

What Information is Included on the Business Listings Pages?

Not only does your business brand have a strong identity on the page but it lists all of the information that customers would need about your company such as:

  • Phone number
  • Hours of operation
  • Description of products or services that you provide
  • A link to your website (if you have one)
  • Google Maps adds a map with directions direct to your location
  • Images from your business
  • Videos from your business

Just like a web site, your listing has all of this information and much more on display 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The “optimization” part is just that; optimizing your listing across many search engines and directories. These are called your citations; you can learn more here: Local Directory and Engine Citations.

The beauty of having your company details listed on all of these different pages  is that they are mobile friendly. Remember that statistic from earlier? Your customers are on their mobile devices a majority of the time when they are searching for your business. That means that they are able to search for your business, get directions, and even call you from their mobile device.

Google have repeatedly shown their commitment to mobile marketing. In fact Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt said; “Mobile, Local and social marketing is here to stay”.

Because mobile technology is so important, Google is encouraging all of their advertisers to optimize their sites for mobile.

Unfortunately the majority of websites are not mobile friendly which means that most are virtually unreadable on most mobile phones.

Even if your site can be seen on the phone, a mobile friendly site loads in approximately 4 seconds while it could take a “PC friendly only” site up to 40 seconds or more.

That is far too long.  Most mobile users are very impatient will simply click away and visit your competitor instead.

Google My Business Makes Your Business Stand Out In the Crowd

For your business to grow and succeed, you need to build your business so that it reaches beyond your existing customer base. You want to have the advantage over your competitors when people are using the general searches to look for businesses in your industry.Local Internet Marketing Concept.

For example, a customer might simply search for your company name.  That’s great and they will likely find you, but it’s more likely that they will do a general search.  Let’s say, for example, that you are a Landscape Gardener with lots of competition. Instead of your name, they will simply look for “Landscape Gardeners in…..” and then list a specific city or town.

Google only displays the top 7 results for a general search term. These companies didn’t pay to be there and yet they are proudly being listed in the top 7 results. This is like getting a full page featured advertisement in the Yellow Pages in the good old days.

These 7 businesses receive the bulk of the traffic. 70% of clicks go to the first 5 search results. That is around 40% for the top listing and 15% for the second placed listing and so on.

If your site is not in the top 7 you won’t be getting much, if any, business at all.
